J-Con: Japanese Connection

hi everybody its Tuna. just wanted to say that i had a great time on Saturday last weekend and i hope to have another great one this weekend with you guys! and to those who i blew up at about saying "believe it" i want to apologize and hope i didnt hurt my chances of making you into new friends.  thanks again for the oppurtunity to meet so many great anime lovers and i hope to get to know all of you personally! i wont be attending the meeting tonight because i have a quiz to study for but i will definitely be there friday.  ttyl Mike AKA Tuna

Hey all,
So, I won't be there for the meeting tonight because I got the flu and went home like a nice considerate person who didn't want to make everybody else sick. Which is okay because I get to sleep all day and there's not much new anyway. There were 27 people who gave me money for Ohayocon, so either Jon or I will work on getting our badges by the end of the week.
Also, our bake sale fundraiser is November 7th at the college gate from 10 PM until we decided to stop. Anybody who wants to cook for that please give me your address for the food permit. I think we're doing brownies and cookies and maybe rice crispy treats. It'll be fun, so everybody should stop by and help out! Somebody should make a poster, too! If anybody wants to volunteer to make the poster, leave a comment. Otherwise I can make one... but it'll be contaminated and you'll all get sick and die. :D

Because Janet just recently got sick, and she hasn't been able to go to classes or watch Max on her own, I might not be able to attend the meeting tomorrow night. If that is the case, I'd like to volunteer to run anime jeopardy at the Halloween showing. I already have most of the questions and topics prepared, and Maple volunteered to help program it. The only thing I'd ask is that it could be placed later on in the schedule for the events room unless people do not want "Schmebes and Nortons" and a new category "Dude, what da f*ck?!" to be included in the game.

I hope everybody is alright with me running Anime Jeopardy because I am really looking forward to it and have been planning out my own questions for quite some time. (Hey, I get bored when I'm by myself and Max is actually being good for once) And if I'm not able to make it to the meeting, I hope that everything goes smoothly, and that everybody is doing well.

I have taken the liberty of reserving 8 rooms for Ohayocon, They had to be reserved in groups of 3 for name holding purposes.

The names do not matter but we'll have to get this all sorted out.
Rooms are $109/night


BADGES:
Badges cost the following

Pre-Registration Phase 1 = July 16 - August 31 = $30
Pre-Registration Phase 2 = September1 - October 31 = $35
Pre-Registration Phase 3 = November 1 - January 10 = $40

If you register for 10 or more badges at the same time you will get a $5 discount per badge.


So ideally 4 people per room at october group reg will be ($84.5)

If we VIOLATE RULES then and put a max of 6 people per room (not soemthing I'm a fan of since the are all under my credit card right now) : $66.33

BUT THERE IS TAX ON THE ROOMS I don't know what that is
I ALSO DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR ALL THESE ROOMS EVEN IF WE CANCEL SOME

REMINDER!: In order to vote in club on what shows we're watching, you need to be a paid member. Make sure you bring your money to either the showing or the next meeting and give it to Zabeth.

Other news:
Ponyo, the new Miyazaki film, is playing at the Athena Cinema starting Friday Sept. 10th. Bueno told me that a manager at the Athena wants to encourage all people interested in anime to attend one of the showings there in order to encourage them to show more Japanese films.

Also, Yamato drummers are going to be at Memorial Auditorium on Oct. 28th. I would like to see if we can all go as a group. I think it would be fun!
More news on this later.

Hello everyone,

I hope you have been having a great summer.
A couple of you have contacted me already about the beginning of the school year, so here's the info:
Just so you know, there will indeed be our first meeting on Tuesday Sept. 8 (first day of classes) at 7:00pm (we'll begin no later than 7:15).

Expect a large attendance as per every year. We'll welcome in the new year by everyone introducing themselves and giving us some interesting facts about themselves. We'll also go over what the club is about, some of the things that we do, and we will also nominate episodes and vote on them for the grab bag showing for that first friday (the 11th).

As for the student involvement fair (Mon. Sept. 7, 3:30-5:30), I would like us to have fliers to pass out with our club info, meeting time and showing time. Would anyone like to design it? It doesn't have to be complicated. The simpler the better. I'm not very photoshop savvy so anyone who can, please let me know ASAP. (There are some example fliers from past years in the photos page of this facebook group)

Also, it would be good to have a display of manga, magazines, figurines, and if anyone has a lot of J-Pop or J-Rock music and/or videos and would entrust us to keep an eye on your laptop during the fair, that would be awesome. (It would be on battery since OU won't provide us with electric power)

Lisa motioned for us to get together to prepare for the involvement fair and the first meeting. I propose an ad-hoc committee to work on this. It shouldn't be terribly hard. And any will-be members for this year I'll make sure get member of the month points for helping out during the prep meeting (sorry officers, only regular members get the points, but I definitely need your help, too).

Those interested at all, please respond soon what day works for you. I'm thinking either Saturday the 5th or Sunday the 6th when most of us are back in town. Remember, the fair is on Monday the 7th.

So I was trolling slashdot and I found this funny story: Some Japanese universities are giving their students iPhones. The plan is to stop class-skipping by using the iPhone GPS system to determine if students are actually on-campus during classes.
